One Country Statement on President Trump’s Year-Round Sales Announcement for Gasoline with 15% Ethanol

Just Another Soon-to-Be Broken Promise from the President

Washington, D.C. – Tessa Gould, Executive Director of the One Country Project issued the following statement after President Donald Trump announced his commitment to year-round E15 sales Friday.

“President Trump made the promise for year-round sales for E15 years ago during his campaign, and he says this effort will help rural Americans. But as usual, the President says one thing and does another – whether it’s handing out waivers for oil companies so they don’t have to adhere to year-round E15, engaging in a trade war that hurts farmers and manufacturers alike or cutting a rural Job Corps program, this President is all hat and no cattle. And it’s time that we started calling him out on his failures and broken promises.”

Background: President Trump’s Failures In The Heartland

  • President Trump claims to support a strong renewable fuel standard, but by giving “hardship” waivers to oil giants like Exxon-Mobil and Chevron he’s selling out farmers to big oil companies by cutting demand for biofuel crops. [Humeyra Pamuk & Chris Prentice, CNBC, 12/19/18]
  • President Trump insists that his trade war will help American farmers, but farmers are unable to pay their loans this year at increasingly high rates. [Jason Lange, Reuters, 05/29/19]
  • The President’s increased tariff rate of 25 percent on certain Chinese goods will increase taxes, kill markets, and puts manufacturers at risk of losing 400,000 jobs. [John Harney, Bloomberg, 05/10/19]
  • China, the world’s largest purchaser of soybeans, has put all purchases from American farmers on hold. [Bloomberg, 05/30/19]
  • He promised rural America jobs, but is ending a rural Job Corps program that will lay off about 1,000 employees, the largest number of federal job cuts in a decade. [Lisa Rein, The Washington Post, 05/24/19]
