One Country Statement on January 2022 Jobs Report

"This strong January jobs report in the midst of the Omicron variant demonstrates the economic momentum communities across the country are experiencing due to policies passed during the first year of the Biden administration, including the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is a momentous first step toward rebuilding America’s roads, bridges, and rails, expanding access to broadband, and creating jobs that will drive economic growth and prosperity across rural, suburban, and urban areas in the years ahead. It will be important to build upon the foundation for economic growth established in the first year of the Biden administration, and we encourage Congress to work together to implement policies that will put the country on a positive economic trajectory.

“American families need to understand how the decisions being made in Washington are impacting their daily lives as they grapple with the rising cost of everyday goods and services and look for good paying jobs, health care, and childcare. To maintain economic momentum, Congress should move forward with President Biden's agenda that will create jobs, address the growing climate crisis, and help working families to attain affordable health care and childcare– among other priorities.

“The past two years of the COVID-19 pandemic have not been easy, and it is encouraging to see such a strong January jobs report. Both Congress and the Biden administration must quickly pass legislation that will further support rural communities and bolster our resilient – but still uncertain -- economy.”
