One Country Statement on February 2022 Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project founder, former Senator Heidi Heitkamp, issued the following statement after the release of the February jobs report: "The February jobs report reaffirms President Biden's agenda is helping Americans, even in a time of economic and social uncertainty. As businesses begin to re-open their doors two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. employment numbers continue to rise, with February alone adding 678,000 new jobs and the overall labor force expanding.

“As a country, we must remain diligent in protecting small businesses and rural economies that persistently suffer due to workforce shortages and high prices of everyday goods. Policymakers at all levels of government must work together to implement policies and provide federal relief through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and American Rescue Plan. These critical pieces of legislation invest in state and local workforce programs as well as new infrastructure projects, creating jobs in rural America and supporting rural-led economic development.

"As the prices of everyday goods rise, Congress must ease the pressure on working Americans by supporting legislation that will put in places measures that advance local priorities like affordable childcare and lower drug prices.”
