One Country Project Applauds Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, One Country Project (OCP) offered support for the executive order promoting competition in the American economy, signed by President Joe Biden. This Executive Order will benefit rural America by directing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to issue new rules to target anti-competitive practices and develop a plan to increase opportunities for farmers to access competitive markets.

“Today’s executive order is an important and historic step in putting power back in the hands of small businesses and producers in rural America,” said OCP co-founder Heidi Heitkamp.

“For decades, big agribusinesses have pushed smaller, family-run businesses out of the industry and driven up costs for consumers. Antiquated federal policy has enabled corporate consolidation. By directing USDA to issue new rules to protect small farmers from predatory practices and increasing market access, President Biden is giving family farms a fighting chance to benefit from their hard work – which is all they’ve ever asked for. Paired with today’s announcement of $500 million to expand small and medium meat processing plants, One Country Project is pleased to see the Biden administration’s focus on rural America, and we look forward to working with President Biden on taking additional steps to close the opportunity gap for rural families and communities.”
