One Country Project Releases First in Series of Rural Media Analyses
Changes in News Industry Has Contributed to Rural-Urban Divide
Washington, D.C. – The One Country Project has announced a new initiative to aid its mission of promoting responsive leadership in Washington, D.C. by reconnecting with rural Americans. This new series of monthly reports will elevate the voices from the American Heartland by aggregating and sharing the most pressing issues of the day, as well as offer insights into how trends in the media contribute to the rural-urban divide.
The initial report serves as a brief “literature review” that encapsulates not only trends in the news publishing industry, but the practical effects those trends have on rural communities. The report hightlights that as news jobs become increasingly concentrated in cities, entire communities are left without a voice.
Rather than dismiss these trends as harsh realities that must be accepted, the initial report paints a stark picture of how both the news media and the current leadership in Washington, D.C. are quick to turn a blind eye to rural stories and how these decisions have negative implications for the country.
