One Country Statement on August 2025 Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) issued the following statement after the release of the August jobs report:

“In August, the U.S. labor market added a paltry 22,000 payroll jobs, missing economists’ projects by nearly 50,000 jobs. Manufacturing continues to shed jobs, along with every sector except healthcare. To note, healthcare will face the prospect of huge insurance rate hikes if the Obamacare subsidies are not extended. The revisions to the June report show monthly losses in jobs for the first time since President Trump’s first term (December 2020). To close out an altogether poor jobs report, the unemployment rate rose by another 0.1%, marking the highest rate in four years.

“August’s drastic decrease in job growth combined with persistent tariff driven inflation, reckless deficit spending, and jobseekers outnumbering job openings for the first time since April 2021 leaves the U.S. economy teetering on the brink of a self-made disaster. With FY26 budget discussion, the administration must quit playing trade games that jeopardize the American economy, get its priorities in order, and implement smart economic policies that put the American people first to avoid a complete system breakdown.”
