One Country Statement on November 2023 Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project issued the following statement after the release of the November jobs report:

“November saw 199,000 jobs added to the market as well as a 0.4 percent increase in hourly earnings, a continuation of the Biden administration’s efforts to grow our national economy and support American workers. There is no time like the winter holiday season to celebrate this unprecedented streak of employment gains for hardworking Americans. This past month, we saw that the price of Thanksgiving dinner went down 4.5 percent compared to 2022, demonstrating the ability of the administration’s anti-inflation policies to ease families’ financial burdens.

“While the economy has become more stable this year, rural communities’ needs are still often overlooked when it comes to federal investment and opportunities for growth. Congress’ paralysis in the face of normally simple procedures and must-pass legislation ― as it has stumbled through the House Speaker saga, allowed the Farm Bill to lapse, and struggled to pass appropriations bills ― has neglected rural workers and their interests. As the year comes to a close, Congress still has much to do to ensure that rural Americans can provide for their families.

“In 2024, we hope to see lawmakers prioritize the 46 million residents of rural America. Congress must come together to take meaningful action and pass a Farm Bill that secures the farming foundation for our agriculture sector, provides the resources Americans need to continue living and working in rural regions, and opens opportunities for rural economic growth.”
