One Country Statement on October 2023 Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project issued the following statement after the release of the October jobs report:

“The 150,000 jobs added in October demonstrates the trend of stabilization in the labor market and enforces President Biden’s commitment to support hardworking Americans. During the past three years, President Biden has already created 14 million jobs – the most jobs in a single term – while keeping unemployment under four percent for 21 straight months, the longest stretch since the 1960s.

“With economic growth increasing by a staggering 4.9 percent in the third quarter and inflation continuing to cool, the administration’s policies are helping American families access essential, everyday goods at a lower burden to themselves. We applaud the Biden Administration’s commitment to providing resources and relief to rural residents and connecting with them directly through the Investing in Rural America tour. The $5 billion in new funding announced this week will build upon the investments made through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act to help rural communities build their local economies, access broadband, and build out sustainable farming practices.

“While we commend these efforts, it is critical that Congress—particularly House Republicans—rebound from the recent Speaker saga and shift focus from political infighting to fighting to keep the government open. A government shutdown would be devastating for Americans reliant on federal funding and stall rural infrastructure installation and development promised by the Investing in Rural America agenda. Congress must also prioritize passing a Farm Bill that secures the farming foundation, grows the rural economy, and ensures that residents can continue to live and work in rural America. Pushing this critical piece of legislation to the back burner would put our nation’s farmers, producers, and agricultural system at risk. We urge members of Congress to do the work that is needed to avoid a government shutdown and to prioritize farmers and rural communities by passing a Farm Bill.”
